Discipleship
Walking With Jesus
“Therefore, as you received Christ Jesus the Lord, so walk in him, rooted and built up in him and established in the faith, just as you were taught, abounding in thanksgiving.”
Colossians 2:6-7.
FPCLW is rooted in the glorious message of redemption and forgiveness which we call the Gospel (1 John 4:8, John 3:16). We adore God and enjoy God for his Gospel and for all His wonderful works as we worship Him (Psalm 27:4, Acts 2:11). And as we have received Christ by the Gospel, so too do we seek to live in Christ by the Gospel (Col 2:6). The reception of Christ by those who are outside of Christ is the emphasis of evangelism while the continuation and growth in Christ is the emphasis of discipleship.
We seek to help Christians walk with Christ and grow more conformed to Christ (Rom 8:29) in deep connection with their communion with the Father and the Holy Spirit as well (Eph 2:18).
As we have received Christ by the Gospel,
so too do we seek to live in Christ by the Gospel.
Large Group Discipleship Avenues
Sunday Discipleship Hour (Sundays at 11am)
Our corporate worship hour is primary in our discipleship in Christ. If our people do nothing else, we desire them to join in public worship. Yet in God’s wisdom, we recognize and rejoice in the fact that Christ’s body is made up of different parts(1 Cor 12). There are a variety of ages,
gifts, life stages and interests in our church, and we see it fitting to allow the different parts of Christ’s body to encourage and teach one another with God’s word in small discipleship settings.
Nursery Children ages newborn to 3 are loved and cared for by our professional staff and carefully vetted and background checked volunteers.
Children’s Sunday School, Children ages 4 through 5th Grade learn the Word of God along with a meal, activities, and singing. Our teachers use Great Commission Publications curriculum.
Youth Sunday School, middle and high schools students engage God’s Word and apply it to their lives.
Adult Discipleship At FPCLW, we also have a variety of adult discipleship groups which meet during the Sunday Discipleship Hour. These groups range from those which discuss the sermon, to those which specialize on in depth Bible study, to those which cultivate deep relationships and community outreach in and through FPCLW.
Rock on Wednesdays
A second distinctive way in FPCLW helps Christians to grow in Christ, meeting in our Family Life Center (“The Rock”), Rock on Wednesday exists to provide fellowship, encouragement and discipleship to Christians and to the FPCLW community. We are not simply Christians on
Sundays. We are Christians from Monday to Saturday as well and Rock on Wednesday exists to buttress and build up the faith of our people.
