What to Expect

At First Presbyterian Church of Lake Wales we worship in a “traditional” manner. All the aspects of the service (music, the Children’s Sermon and responsive readings) are planned to coordinate with the Scripture reading and sermon topic. Our service begins at 9:30 am and lasts about an hour. We begin with welcome and announcements, then get into worship: we sing using hymnals or song sheets provided, we interact with responsive readings, and we listen to Scripture readings, the choir and the sermon. Our choir enlists a wide variety of music from hymns and praise songs to classical pieces during worship. Pastor Chad generally preaches verse by verse, rather than topically. Depending on the book of the Bible we are studying, it may take some time to complete. We were in I Kings for seven months!

What should you wear? Attire runs the gamut (except for the pastor, who wears a robe during the winter months and a suit in summer) and is entirely up to you. We have some who dress up, others who wear jeans, a couple who wear shorts and everything in between. Child care is available for children three and under. We believe it is important for families to worship together, so children over three are encouraged to attend the service with their parents. We do provide children’s bulletins each Sunday using the same scripture reference the adults are studying that morning. We also designate a few minutes during the service for the children to go to the front of the church for the Children’s Sermon. Our nurseries, one for infants and one for toddlers, are supervised with wonderful volunteers and staff. They will provide a safe and fun place for your children during the worship hour.
